There’s one word that as new parents, we can only hope never to hear.
Poonami.
Defined as a monumental infant bowel movement of such quantity and consistency that no nappy stands a chance of containing it, resulting in a disastrous mess.
A poonami is something that needs to be seen to be believed, as the sheer amount of poo that can escape your little darling can leave you in shock and awe. The handling of a poonami requires a new level of skill, an especially strong stomach, and a good sense of humour, because if you don't laugh - you’ll cry. This one’s not for the faint hearted!
Poonami Disasters
If you’re lucky enough to be blissfully unaware of the phenomenon of the poonami, just listen to what Reddit user u/Notorious_Llama_56 had to say about her horrendous experience.
“I never thought I would ask a nurse this… My 10 month old daughter and I had been at my sister's place for most of the day. When I got home after a 20 minute drive, I opened the door and found something smeared on her face. To my absolute horror, I discovered that she had done a massive poonami on the way home and had smeared poop all over her face!
I have no idea if she ate any, so had to call the nurse to ask what to do if you think your baby has eaten poop! Thankfully my husband arrived home just in time to help with clean-up. We were just advised to watch her for symptoms and check that she is still eating and drinking normally and check in with a doctor in the next few days.
Oh my God. Time for wine.”

“Baby was fussy all day and it was rough. Took a shower and I nursed baby to sleep but baby was fidgeting. I started rocking and singing to baby in the dark.
Husband comes in and turns on the light. Baby had stealth pooped and it is a pooplosion. It is on my legs, on our bedsheets, on the pillows....etc. Plus baby is on sweet potato sticks so there are bits of sweet potato... everywhere.
I need to hear other poonami stories tonight while I sleep in the guest bedroom waiting for my sheets to dry...”

“Littlest one (3) has got some serious diarrhoea. This kid can sink a battleship on a solid day, so in liquid form it is relentless.
We're 48 hours in, her bed has been changed 4 times, we've gone through 10 pairs of pants in 2 days. This does not include the times she's made it to the toilet. Poor thing's sharted every time she's so much as thought about farting.
But she's fine in herself, so I have no shame in my pity post. I don't think I've ever dealt with so much poo in a day. At least the baby poonamis were generally limited to 1 maybe 2 a day. I am broken, and actively looking forward to travelling away Monday/Tuesday and being responsible for precisely one person: me. For a whole 2 full days.
On the plus side, I have managed to extract from soiled clothes and clean up without disturbing her. Yet another life skill I never knew I had, or desired for that matter.
