Our Shnuggle baby bath is designed for newborns 0-6 months and babies aged 6-12 months meaning you can use it throughout your baby’s first year. So whether you’ve just bought one or are considering it, we’ll tell you how to use our baby bath best and make the most of all its wonderful features!
Use it to support your baby
The idea for our award-winning Shnuggle baby bath was created when our founders, Adam and Sinead found bathing their newborn daughter more difficult than it needed to be. Kneeling down and hanging over the bath holding a small newborn whose bum kept slipping was becoming an unnecessarily tough process! But what if the baby had their own little bath - and an extra bit of support?
So Adam and Sinead created our Baby Bath with an internal bum bump so baby’s bum can gently perch above it - giving them a little boost in the bath and allowing you to support their upper half fully. So, when using our baby bath place baby in feet first and then gently position their bum behind the bum bump - being poised and ready to support their neck or give them extra support under the arm depending on where baby needs it. Due to the design of our baby bath - which mimics the ergonomic design of an adult bathtub, your baby will sit comfortably in the water with their back resting on our soft foam backrest. This means less fussing from you trying to keep them afloat and definitely less tears from them as they begin to enjoy the more upright position the Shnuggle Bath offers them.
Use it to support yourself
We know that bathtime can be a little bit fraught in the beginning as you may be a first-timer, that’s why our bath makes it easier for you to bathe baby in the first place. Our baby bath can be filled up in the shower or your existing bath or even in the sink providing you ease of movement which is ideal for those newborn months. If you have another child in tow, it also allows you to keep an eye on them or involve them in bathing their younger sibling. We’ve seen plenty of Shnuggle baby baths in living rooms, kitchens and more!

As our bath stand sits at waist height, you can bathe your baby at a comfortable height and position without needing to kneel or sit down. Use it to keep baby safe
Our baby bath is made from BPA- free, non toxic plastic and is regulated to EN 17072:2018 standards meaning when you bath your baby in our tub, it is in a safe material and design that has been thoroughly tested. Aside from this, it has a few safety features to keep your baby safe in bathtime. Of course, our bum bump helps to prop up your little one in the bath and give them that extra bit of stability while you support their upper half - this also helps to prevent them slipping down. While this is a handy feature, never leave your baby alone in the bath for any reason and not even for a second. Our non-slip base also stops our bath from moving while you experience bathtime. A subtle but strong feature of our Baby Bath is our ‘MAX’ water line indicator. This shows how far to fill up the bathwater and is located just under the backrest.
Use it to keep baby warm
Many babies don’t enjoy bathtime as not only is it a somewhat unfamiliar experience but because the room temperature and bath temperature can be mismatched. Due to the compact nature and size of our baby bath the bath water stays warmer for longer keeping your baby nice and cosy in the water. Our baby bath requires a max of 2 litres of water also helping you save on your energy bills! If you find your newborn is still unsettled in the bath try swaddle bathing to make them feel that much more comfortable and warm. Use it to keep baby comfortable
A comfortable and happy baby will learn to enjoy their bathtime sooner and it may become one of their favourite activities. That’s why we’ve made our bathtub as comfortable as possible for them as they grow. The contoured design is made to fit your newborn as they get bigger and are able to sit up in the bath whilst our foam backrest means there’s no ‘cold hard plastic’ feel to their bathtime. If changed before on our soft and warm to the touch changing mat, and cuddled up after in our wearable towel - they’ll soon ‘warm’ to bathtime on their own! Whilst our baby bath is compact for a reason it has plenty of space for your baby from 0 - 12 months to splash and play in.
How to bath your baby using the Shnuggle baby bath
So now you know all the uses of our Shnuggle baby bath, let’s break down exactly how to use it for bathtime!
Before deciding to bathe your baby first ensure that they’re awake and not feeling sleepy. Your room temperature should be in and around 22 - 24 degrees. If you need to monitor this, our Moonlight Plus is not only a night light but also doubles up as room thermometer.
Next grab the following things and have them handy beside you before bathtime;

Any massaging oils or after bath creams

A fresh nappy, babygrow and sleepsuit
With everything to hand start by filling the bath tub with cold water and then begin to add hot water - use the MAX line indicated below our backrest to see where to fill the water to. Use our bath thermometer to guide you on the water temperature.
Once your water is perfect and your Bath Buoy is glowing with a green go-ahead light, sit baby in the bath water feet first with their bum atop our bum bump. In the early newborn weeks, feel free to use a muslin cloth for an extra bit of warmth.
Support your baby’s upper body and gently wash them from head to toe (in this order!), ensuring to get into all their neat little folds. As mentioned, do not leave your baby alone for even one second - and not with a young sibling either.
Once bathtime is complete, wrap them in our wearable towel and get them ready for bed with a fresh nappy and sleepsuit.
Our Baby Bath has a drain plug that can easily get rid of the used bath water. It will also dry quickly or can be wiped dry in minutes.
What if my baby is too small for the Shnuggle bath?
We understand why you may feel that the Shnuggle bath can appear too big for your newborn, especially if they’ve arrived a little early. However, our bath is completely safe and usable for newborns all the way up to 12 months.
